More Tax Cuts for the Rich?

Every way you look at Trickle Down, it's still Voodoo Economics.

Let me see if I can get this straight. The economy is in the crapper because no one has any money to spend, and this administration's brilliant plan is to give money back to those who don’t spend it?

First off, the rich didn’t get rich by spending money. They got rich by either (a) saving money, or (b) having parents or a spouse who saved money. Well, there are also those people who got rich by suing tobacco companies or spilling coffee in their lap, but those idiots don’t count. But, in essence, George W. wants to give money to people who don’t spend it. Great idea Dubya! Where’d you get it from? Your Dad?

What did the last round of tax cuts for the rich get us? Rampant unemployment, massive federal deficits, zero economic growth, and the thing you fear most – a democrat in the White House. The economy sucked then, and the tax cuts for the rich didn’t help. Why then would the cuts prove to be better for us now?

If you want to stimulate spending, give tax cuts to the poor and middle class. They have immediate needs they can spend the money on. Like home improvements and better cars for instance! Which, by the way, when last I checked were key economic indicators. Hell, even if they just spend the money on beer, movie tickets, and NASCAR tickets, the money is being spent again. It’s being taxed too. It’s adding jobs, and improving the quality of life for a vast number of Americans. Including the rich!

But giving tax cuts to the rich? How is funneling money into tax-free accounts in the Cayman Islands going to help the rest of us out? It’s not. And don’t give me this “Trickle Down Economics” garbage – the only thing the rich ever trickle down to the poor is feint praise for their illegal immigrant gardeners. “The Azaleas look great, Manuel, thanks!”.

Here’s a news flash for those that believe in Trickle Down Economics – no one ever got rich by helping the poor. Well, no one ever got rich by really helping the poor, but some did by pretending to – and they are called Televangelists.

So Mr. Bush, if you actually want to rebuild this vast wasteland of an economy we currently live in, don’t throw a wad of cash into a vapid hole – let those people who actually spend money, spend it. Hell, no one else ever tried it – it might just work.
